Sowing Discord

What is It?

Sowing discord is one of the most heinous sins in the Bible. It is a wicked sin fathered by pride and was found in Lucifer in heaven who sowed discord to a third of God’s Holy angels to disobeyed God. All sowers of discord are false witness who breathes out lies and deceit.  Sowers of discord always started off small like the small trail of water above and then it flows to other places eventually spreading everywhere; causing in most cases severe irreparable damages in hearts and thoughts. To sow discord is to say and do things which cause distrust among one another, which results in arguments and fights. Usually the ‘sower’ is acting as if he/she is not trying to cause arguments. Sowing discord is something done in secret, done by deceit authored by the father of deceit. The sower of discord is a “worthless person,  “A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord” (Proverbs 6:12-14).

Those Who Plant “Seeds “of Discord? (Truth on the Web)

“Sowers of Discord” sow the seeds of bitterness, anger, distrust, and hatred into the ground of other people’s hearts.  These actions does not come from the spirit of God but birth from hell from the deceiver the devil.  Such divisive behavior is included in what the bible calls “the works of the flesh.”Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. However, this is not a fleshly battle but a spiritual one. It is not ‘this man vs that man’ but ‘the spiritual enemies of Christ versus His Church.’    Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Discord Serve Ones Own Interest

“Sowers of Discord are usually driven to serve their own interests and are themselves driven, scourged and mired in relentless sin. Discord Sowers exploit the passion/emotion of others, and, more often than not, derive pleasure from conflict. Sometimes they are aware of what they are doing but sometimes they just play into the hands of spiritual forces that are intent upon destroying the mission of the church.  They regularly nourish these feelings that drive their behavior by brooding on, real or perceived: past injuries, present suspicions and future insecurities. They are often propelled by inner turmoil.” The Sower of Discord probes the vulnerabilities of other’s; seeking for weak points to expose and exploit. “Sowers of Discord” generally may present some valid points but generally do not offer  do constructive solutions. Instead of pulling God’s people together, they divide them. They project their angry hostile behaviors onto people in the congregation (usually the leaders). The targets are usually not the cause of the problem, but merely recipients of its result. “Sowers of Discord” thus seek to attract followers to make their divisive cases appear stronger. Some reasons why individuals follow “Sowers of Discord” include the fact that people sometimes mistake “Sowers of Discord” for persons who meant them well. They may present themselves as working for a good cause. It’s easier to lose focus on yourself when you are able to critically look at others. “Negative emotions, lies, half-truths and innuendo are often far more exciting than the truth. To the natural man, bad news is more exciting than good news. All believers must guard their heart because Proverbs tells us that it will determine the course of our life.”

The Abomination Sin God Hates

Romans 16:17-18  “Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.” Richard T. Ritenbaugh reveals that “Paul says that such deceptive people are serving, not God, but their own belly. This may sound like all they are doing is trying to get food or trying to “live off of” the saints. But what it means is that they are stoking their own desires. It is a symbol of a person doing something for his own gratification. They were deceiving to please themselves in some way. They are not doing it to please God, obviously, because if they were, they would be telling the truth. But since they are telling falsehoods and lies, deceiving the brethren and causing divisions, they are obviously not pleasing God in any way. What they are gratifying in themselves could be anything.”

Sowing discord among brethren is counted along with murder…among other things. The seventh item listed as an “abomination” in Proverbs 6:19  is “one who sows discord among brothers.” All of the first six ultimately lead to and breed this discord and division.God hates this because he loves unity. As Psalm 133:1 reminds us, “Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity.” Sower of discord disrupts unity and causes great division which in many cases could be irreparable.

Sowing Discord – By Billy Graham

  • We have come to think that it is a harmless thing to sow discord in the office, church, but the bible says God not only hate sowing discord but God say that it is an abomination to Him.  God hates discord and strongly denounce those who sows strife.
  • What can we do about these dreadful traits that is in our hearts? There is very little we can do but there is something God has done. The secret is found in the words of the apostle Paul:”And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” (Romans 12:2). Jesus Christ if received into your life can make your tongue so that it speaks only that which is good.
  • Jesus can come into your heart and transform you, change your nature, until you love instead of hate.  Sowing discord will no longer provide pleasure. How can this be? Christ through His triumphant death on the cross, purchased for you and me a new lease on life.

  • Anyone sows discord among brothers: “Brothers are created by God to live in unity (Psalm 133:1 & 1 Thessalonians 4:9). Believers are brothers and sisters since they have one Father God and one Brother, Jesus Christ. The Church is also the Bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:25-27). In many situations strife among brothers and even within the church seems unavoidable, but anyone who purposely causes disruption to peace in the body of Christ will displease God above all, since that person gives room for others to sin and for himself to sin further (1 John 2:9-11; 4:19-21). Moreover, Jesus pronounced a great blessing on peacemakers, the privilege to be called “sons of God” (Matthew 5:9).
  • What is an abomination? An abomination is something that causes hate or disgust. In biblical usage, an abomination is something that God loathes or hates because it is offensive to Him and His character. Proverbs 6 contains a list of seven things that God calls an abomination: “There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers”(Proverbs 6:16-19).

One who Sows Discord Among Brothers – Gene S. Whitehead

  • These are the saboteurs around you. In the workplace, among your friends, in your church, and probably even in your family, there’s that one person who causes trouble for everyone. The term ‘among brothers’ used in this verse leads me to conclude that this is directed closer to home. This is speaking to the person who stirs up strife among relatives and within the fellowship of the church, causing misery where the nurturing of a family should be.
  • If this is you, seek forgiveness and stop it. If it’s someone you know, pray about how to address the problem. And then address it. Sorry, we don’t get to ignore things that God says he hates. And he hates strife and confusion within the family, whether it’s in your church or among your relatives. Maybe some of these make you uncomfortable. Or maybe not. But if so, remember that scripture is like a mirror and sometimes when we see ourselves in that reflection, we either look away or we look more deeply.God desires that we take that deeper look. His word can be convicting, and sometimes even condemning. However, the value of God’s word is that it builds us up and prepares us to glorify Him. Discovering things God hates and being honest about them is a best practice to take home.
